Every year at Beyond Hunger: A Place at the Table—our
annual event to raise awareness and critical resources for marginalized
women and their families worldwide—we take the opportunity to honor
those who have taken action to help bring self-reliance and hope to
those affected by hunger, climate change and poverty with the Noble
Globe award.
So just how can you get your
hands on a Noble Globe? Here are a few things outstanding individuals
like actress Diane Lane, chef Tom Colicchio, and upcoming honoree
Patrick Rothfuss have done to deserve the award:
Use Your Voice
It
may seem like one person or one dollar wouldn’t go far to change the
world. The truth is, we’re only going to accomplish missions like ending
poverty or empowering marginalized women by working together. People
have to know about the issues in order to collectively take action, and
single voices like author Patrick Rothfuss or Ian Somerholder have
inspired millions to come together and make a real difference.
Use Your Resources
Philanthropy
is more than simply giving money away–it’s investing in the future. The
well-being of our planet and future generations depend on our
determination to imagine a better world and make sure it happens by
giving time, money and passion to our goal, and we honor folks like Tai
Lopez and Chris Gero for investing in the vision of a world beyond
hunger and poverty.
Use Your Brain
Even
when the desire and resources needed for making change are there, it’s
still a complicated road. Making policies, understanding cultures,
gathering data, creating technology and making sure all voices are heard
while turning the idea of ending poverty into reality requires the
talents of the best and the brightest among us. Noble Globe honoree
Annie Griffiths uses photography to bring the stories of those in
poverty to the forefront, and this year’s keynote speaker Ambassador
Deborah Birx, M.D., is a world-renowned medical expert and leader in the
field of HIV/AIDS.
Together
with thousands of readers, authors, gamers, and geeks, Rothfuss has
raised more than $3.5 million for Heifer International.
