First 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition Is Up For Grabs

Proceeds from retro-themed supercar's auction will go to charity.

Eager to get your driving gloves on a new Ford GT, but not so keen to fight for a spot on the waiting list? Your rare chance is coming up in January when Barrett-Jackson will auction one off to the highest bidder.

And it's not just any Ford GT, either: the car in question will be the very first 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition, decked out in classic Gulf Oil livery, with VIN 001. And to make the prospect even more enticing to prospective bidders, the proceeds from the sale – which are sure to be quite substantial – will go to charity.

The Heritage Edition pays homage to the GT40 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans half a century ago in these very same colors. The optional appearance package for the Blue Oval supercar applies an orange nose and central stripe over baby-blue bodywork, with orange brake calipers to match inside 20-inch dark gloss alloys. It also features silver mirror caps, exposed-carbon A-pillars, and a cabin all wrapped in black Alcantara with blue and orange stitching and matte carbon interior trim. Ford even updated the original number 9 with a more contemporary graphic better suited to the modern supercar.

The car will be auctioned off in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 19, with proceeds benefiting the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. But even if you miss out on this one, the same Barrett-Jackson event will also feature seven 2005-06 Ford GTs, including three similarly liveried Heritage Editions.

“The 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition instantly became one of the most anticipated cars in the world with its famous paint scheme,” said Ford's Joe Hinrichs. “This car’s amazing history should help the United Way for Southeastern Michigan raise a lot of money to advance their mission of helping make lives better in our communities.”
