MG Motor India
organised its first customer meet and drive. It was aimed at
highlighting the British brand’s association with the Indian
subcontinent. This meet was a part of the 21 Gun Salute Rally which was
held in New Delhi on February 17 and 18, 2018.
The 21 Gun Salute
Rally is a vintage car rally that is aimed at showcasing the best
heritage and vintage cars in the country and promoting the vast cultural
diversity of India on the global stage. It was first started in 2011
and this year was the 8th edition of the 21 Gun Salute Rally.
The exclusive MG Motor meet was attended by MG owners who travelled
from cities such Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh and others to participate in
the rally. MG cars present at the rally included roadsters and
convertibles like the 1935 MG P sports roader, 1946 MG TC and 1965 MG
Midget among others. The MG B was the most popular of the cars, with
three models including the popular MG-B GT fastback in attendance.
Recently, MG also launched a digital campaign to welcome the MG
enthusiasts who have owned and conserved the British marque’s classic
cars. The exclusive meet and drive were another step in strengthening
its bond with the brand’s loyalists in the country. It was flagged off
from Golf Course Ambience Greens in Gurgaon.
The British carmaker is all set to enter the Indian car market by late-2018,
spearheaded by two SUVs and a premium hatchback. Last year, the
carmaker took over General Motor's plant in Halol, Gujarat. MG is now
refurbishing the facility with state-of-the-art manufacturing tools and
processes for producing cars for the Indian market by late-2018. MG says
the plant will have a production capacity of 80,000 cars a year in the
first phase.
