VATICAN Ambassador
to Tanzania, Archbishop Francisco Montecillo Padilla, has urged
Tanzanians to promote Kiswahili because it has created national unity.
Archbishop
Padilla made the remarks during his recent tour of Kagera Region.
During his seven-day tour to Kagera, Archbishop Padilla, also led
thousands of worshippers to a yearly pilgrimage held at
Nyakijooga-Mugana, in Misenyi District where he conducted a Mass in
Kiswahili.
"Kiswahili
has united Tanzanians. More efforts should be made to promote its
usage," he said. Archbishop Padilla called upon parents to ensure proper
upbringing of their children and teach them good things including
prayers.
He
also stressed the need for religious tolerance among Tanzanians of
different faith as the nation prepares to hold general election slated
for October, this year. "Brothers and sistersÉ. we have a duty to
tolerate one another.
Religion
should not divide us because we are all children of one God," he
emphasized. US President Barack Obama also made similar remarks when he
addressed Kenyans in Nairobi using Kiswahili during his recent tour of
East Africa nation.
Archbishop
Padilla also visited Bukongo Village in Kamachumu Division of Muleba
District, the birthplace of the late Laurian Cardinal Rugambwa.
